State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently presented the New York State Medal For Merit to Michael Mulvihill, a Navy veteran from Seaford. Michael’s wife, Kathy, and four year-old daughter Katie, joined Senator Fuschillo in congratulating him on earning the award.

Michael served on active duty in the United States Navy from 1980 to 1984. He was previously awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal. Following his military service, Michael pursued a career in law enforcement as a member of the New York City Police Department.

The Medal For Merit is awarded to current New York State residents, or those who were New York State citizens at the time of their service, who served honorably in the United States Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard and whose service was in direct support of combat operations.

“As a member of the United States Navy, Michael Mulvihill gave several years of his life in service to our country. Like all veterans, he is deserving of our respect and gratitude. I am pleased to congratulate Michael on earning this honor and thank him for his dedicated and honorable service,” said Senator Fuschillo.

Senator Fuschillo is continually accepting applications for New York State military awards. Veterans or family members of veterans who would like more information about the military medals offered by New York State can call Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-882-0630.
