SENATOR FUSCHILLO & ASSEMBLYMAN McDONOUGH INVITE RESIDENTS TO HELP “STAMP OUT HUNGER” BY PARTICIPATING IN POSTAL SERVICE FOOD DRIVE ON MAY 9TH

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) and Assemblyman Dave McDonough (19^th Assembly District) recently visited the Merrick Post Office to donate food as part of the National Association of Letter Carrier’s annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive, which will take place on Saturday, May 9th.

“Right now, there are many families on Long Island who are suffering from hunger. This extremely worthwhile cause will help replenish local food banks and pantries and provide assistance to our neighbors who have fallen on hard times,” said Senator Fuschillo.

The “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive is the nation’s largest single day food drive. Letter carriers collect nonperishable food items from people’s homes while they are delivering mail along their routes. The food that is collected is then distributed to local food banks, pantries, and shelters. Last year’s event collected over 858,000 pounds of food for Long Island families in need.

Residents who would like to participate in the “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive should place nonperishable items, such as canned foods, cereals, pasta, and rice, in a bag near their mailbox on Saturday, May 9th before their letter carrier arrives. Donations can also be brought to local post offices. All the food collected during the drive will then be delivered to local food banks, pantries, and shelters.
