SENATOR FUSCHILLO ATTENDS HEARING ON NEED FOR TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS ON LONG ISLAND

          State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8^th Senate District) recently attended a Senate public hearing on the New York State Department of Transportation’s (DOT) proposed five year capital plan. The proposed plan contains numerous road and bridge improvement projects on Long Island.

             During the hearing, local business owners, labor organizations, and other professional organizations provided their input on the plan and the Island’s transportation needs. Many of those who testified noted the tremendous economic benefit these projects would provide, particularly at a time when workers in the construction industry are facing an unemployment rate of well over 30 percent.

             “Bridge and roadway improvement projects are needed to keep the state’s transportation infrastructure safe and functioning. These projects deliver a significant economic benefit by creating jobs for our residents and generating revenue for local businesses. At a time when job creation and economic development are top priorities, these projects would provide a tremendous boost to our economy. I thank the speakers for offering their input on what they believe is the best way to achieve those objectives,” said Senator Fuschillo.
