Nys Senator Eric Adams Joins Legislators And Community Leaders In The Brooklyn Grassroots Event “towards A More Perfect Union.”

PARTICIPANTS FROM ALL POLITICAL AFFILIATIONS ARE INVITED TO JOIN THE MARCH ACROSS THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE TO PROCLAIM THEIR COMMON VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF OUR NATION.

New York State Senator Eric Adams (D, Brooklyn) and a group of legislators and community leaders will lead a march across the Brooklyn Bridge as they reject the politics of the past and “Unite For Change.”

Senator Adams states:  “I urge everyone, regardless of political affiliation, to accompany me on June 28 in support of unity.  I invite you to join in a movement that can alter the face of politics, and thereby transform our nation.  I challenge you to believe that we can achieve momentous progress.  I entreat you to share a vision of commitment and dedication that can revive America.  I implore you to work for a ‘fresh start’, for our country, for our world, and for ourselves.”

Senator Adams further states:  “We must transcend partisanship and organize a movement that aspires to change politics in a country that has become divided.  The formidable task we must undertake is to tackle the essential challenge of our 21st century and repair the rift that divides our country on matters of income distribution, health care, religion, and lifestyle.  We must become engaged; we must serve a cause more significant than self-interest and abandon the mistrust and cynicism the political process has engendered.

We can already see the burgeoning success of this mission to instill a belief in ourselves and in our capacity to achieve our highest ideals.  It has increased participation in the primary process among young people, convincing them that politics can be meaningful, an avenue for hope and progress.  It has made the most jaded of us feel that we can transcend all obstacles to bring out that which is best about our country.

As we approach the official nomination of candidates for President of the United States, it is critical that we continue to promote this brilliant vision by coming together and utilizing our shared values to build united volunteer organizations.  We can be especially effective in our own neighborhoods, building the bonds of community by registering new voters and building local support.  We will empower one another.

Senator Adams concludes:  “On Saturday, June 28, all across our country, citizens assembled -- everyone wearied of the politics of the past and ready for something new.  They were unified across regions and states, across political parties, across gender, across racial and ethnic lines, across religious affiliation, and across professional and occupational background.  They discussed a common agenda for the future and planned a national alliance.  It was a nationwide day of action called ‘Unite for Change’, a grassroots event to move ‘Towards A More Perfect Union’.”
