Do You Support Final State Budget?

Albany, N.Y., April 7–More than 90 percent of the respondents to a week-long, online “Quick Poll” conducted by State Senator George Winner (R-C-I, Elmira) have expressed opposition to the 2009-2010 state budget enacted late last week by Governor David Paterson and the Legislature’s Democratic majorities.

Since last Tuesday, 94 percent of the respondents to Winner’s online “Quick Poll” expressed opposition to the state’s new fiscal plan.  Winner said that 77 percent of poll respondents were “strongly opposed,” while 17 percent were “opposed.”

Meanwhile, the results of a Quinnipiac University poll conducted over the past week also found that New York voters statewide disapprove of the budget, this time by a 60-16 margin.  The results of the Quinnipiac poll were released earlier today. 

“This year’s state budget has produced a strong response from individual New Yorkers,” said Winner, who opposed the $131.8-billion fiscal plan that increases spending by $10 billion and includes approximately $8 billion in new state taxes and fees.
