Winner: Fight for Upstate Back On

George Winner

Albany, N.Y., July 9–State Senator George Winner (R-C-I, Elmira) issued the following statement today on the Senate leadership change:

“It’s not a good day for the concerns and challenges facing upstate New York.

“For now. we’re about to return to a state government under one-party, one-region, downstate control.

“This year’s state budget still stands as proof that upstate New York’s taxpayers, employers, workers, and families don’t get a fair shake in a state government under one-party, one-region, downstate control.

“Our effort over the past several weeks to bring a better and stronger legislative process to the Senate – one that gives our upstate communities the voice they deserve -- has opened the door to meaningful change.

“My number one concern, at the moment, is that this newly opened door doesn’t get slammed shut again.  So I’ll get back to work with many of my colleagues to keep speaking up and to keep fighting for upstate’s fair share and fair representation.  Nothing changes on that commitment to our communities.”
