Senator Farley Praises Passage of Fire Truck Legislation Amending CDL Requirements
State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C - Schenectady) today voted in support of legislation (S.1624-C) he co-sponsored that will help firefighters with their training and with ceremonial duties such as participating in Memorial Day celebrations throughout the State. "Earlier this year, I received numerous calls from volunteer fire departments asking for amendments to the current regulations that require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for the operation of fire vehicles," Senator Farley said. "The regulations allowed trucks to be driven to a scene by someone without a CDL, but not to take the truck back to the station when the emergency was over. As part of the budget, an amendment was enacted to specifically allow trucks to be driven to and from a fire scene. However, I shared the concern of firefighters that this did not go far enough to address their needs."
