Senator Serrano Meets Dalai Lama in State Capitol

Senator Jose M. Serrano had the opportunity to meet with the 14th Dalai Lama in Albany on Thursday, May 7, 2009. The spiritual leader opened the New York State Senate session with a plea for peace and compassion, and stressed the importance of truth and transparency.

The Dalai Lama is the recipient of various accolades including the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize and the Congressional Gold Medal in 2007 for his advocacy of peaceful solutions during the struggle for the liberation of Tibet. He has traveled the world as a supporter of universal responsibility, non-violence, and inter-religious dialogue.
