Re-gifting Outerwear: Senator Parker Kicks Off Annual Coat Drive

Kevin S. Parker

Senator Parker Declared Yesterday a Day of Service for All Constituents!

Brooklyn, NY-  On what was the coldest night of the week with temperatures hitting below zero, Senator Parker hosted his annual coat drive in conjunction with Health Plus.  Over 200 hundred gently-used adult and children's coats were distributed to families in-need and senior citizens who attended.

“I am aware that thousands of New Yorkers, including our senior citizens and families, lack warm coats to get them through the winter months,” said Senator Parker.  “Everyone, including our sponsors, stepped up to this commitment and I am particularly grateful since we are experiencing such an unseasonably cold month.  Thanks to all who helped make this coat drive a success.  The people we serve are also grateful,” he added.

According to one visitor, who requested anonymity, “In these very challenging economic times, Senator Parker’s capacity to help the less fortunate is a gift.  I am happy that this event is going on in our community.”

Attendees were also provided with essential information regarding the winter months including, fire safety, home energy, affordable insurance and other helpful information.  Among the vendors were: America Works, FDNY, Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) under the Department of Aging, IRS Tax Advocates Service, and
Safe Healthy Affordable and Reliable Energy (S.H.A.R.E) were present.  Health Plus representatives also donated free hats and gloves to all who attended.

The coat drive is just one of the many constituent service events that Senator Parker hosts throughout the year.
