Brooklyn, NY- This past Monday night, five time Stellar Award winner and Dove Award winner Kurt Carr & The Kurt Carr singers wowed and captivated the audience, at the annual “A Shared Dream” Martin Luther King Jr. Concert hosted by Senator Parker in conjunction with New Hope Christian Fellowship. Despite the inclement weather, approximately a thousand attended the ‘Shared Dream” concert. This year’s celebration comes a day before what is seen as the realization of part of King’s dream- the inauguration of America’s first black president.
In its 5th, year, the show is now among the top three MLK events in the city. All tickets for the event were free and distributed on a first come basis.
In the reflection, Senator Parker focused on the deep faith of Dr. King and how far it has brought African Americans towards leadership. “I am comforted by the fact that though Dr. King was not given the opportunity to get to the Promised Land, he was privileged to have had his mountaintop experience,” said Senator Parker. “And so today, I hope that from the mountaintop, he is looking down on us and can see that his work was not vain. I hope that as he stands on that mountain he can see change that has come to America.”
"Dr. King taught us the need to respect one another as well as the importance of empowering our community in order to strengthen it for generations to come. It is our privilege to join State Senator Parker to celebrate the life and achievements of this great American,” said Craig Wilson, Executive Director of Safe Healthy Affordable and Reliable Energy (SHARE).
Others who contributed to the concert included Ifetayo Cultural Arts Center, follow, a tribute in worship and praise by Haitian Gospel band CherakyToussaint and Voices of Inspiration, A song dedicated for King by Emmon, Invocation by Imam Hafiz Mohammad Sabir, Rabbi Gershon Tannenbaum, and Arch Deacon Canon Howard Williams.
But the night belonged to the stars of the show, Kurt Carr and the Kurt Carr singers who had everyone on their feet with their singular style of gospel.
