Senator Parker Announces Committee Assignments For The 21st District

Senator Parker Selected for Prestigious Committee Appointments

Brooklyn, NY-   Senator Parker today said his committee assignments will allow him multiple avenues to benefit the people of the 21st District, including his new assignments to the Codes and Taxation Reform committees.  Majority Leader Malcolm A. Smith also appointed Senator Parker to temporarily sit on the Rules & Administration committee, which provides oversight of the Senate rules and regulations. Senator Parker will continue to serve on the Commerce, Environmental Conservation, Higher Education, Finance and Insurance committees during the 2009 legislative year.

"These assignments will allow me to continue the work I’ve focused on in the Senate,” Senator Parker said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to represent my neighbors in the 21st District and I will continue to expand the outreach of services and information that will benefit them.”

Earlier Senator Parker was named Chair of Energy & Telecommunications committee, of which he was the ranking member. A position that will allow the Senator more of a hand in prioritizing on how New York can become more energy independent and energy efficient. “I look forward to managing a committee agenda that offers a full and open debate on the energy challenges before us,” said Senator Parker.  “I will work with my colleagues, our partners in government, the private sector, advocates, and with regular citizens to bring the best solutions.” 

Senator Parker has used his committee committees in the past to strengthen small business start-up and assistance programs, improve fuel economy standards, and education assistant programs. He plans to build on these initiatives and create new opportunities for economic growth in the green sector.
