Senator Oppenhimer receiving the "Champion of Child Care" distinction from the Child Care Council of Westchester, Inc. President Michael Molinelli
Senator Oppenheimer Named "Champion of Child Care" by the Child Care Council of Westchester, Inc.
The Child Care Council of Westchester, Inc. (“Council”) bestowed its “Champions of Child Care Award” on Senator Suzi Oppenheimer (D-Mamaroneck). The award was presented to the Senator at the Council’s annual awards luncheon held on June 5, 2009, at the Women’s Club in White Plains, New York.
Noting her “impressive record of accomplishments,” Council President, Michael Molinelli, called the Senator “a tireless advocate for child care, education, fiscal reform and women’s issues.” Senator Oppenheimer “has always understood the importance of quality child care and the role it plays in the education of young children.” She “was a vocal advocate for expanded infant and toddler care of high quality, long before this was in mainstream thinking.”
Senator Oppenheimer was instrumental in funding the Council’s professional development workshops in the areas of block play and early math. She has also helped support the Council’s quality improvement services for the early classroom education of infants and toddlers.
In presenting the award, Mr. Molinelli praised the Senator as someone who “has achieved that rare level of public recognition where she frequently goes by one name only – ‘Suzi.’ We are so lucky to have her in Albany as our State Senator and as a Child Care Champion in Westchester County.”
