NYC Marathon traffic mayhem: Islanders should not try to compete with the big race this weekend

The upper level of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge will be closed in both directions from 12:01 a.m. through 3 p.m. Sunday, and the lower level will be closed in both directions from about 7 a.m. until about 3 p.m.STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. --- If you're not wearing running shoes and a number on your chest, prepare to have a tough time getting around on Sunday. Streets will be closed throughout the five boroughs during the running of the 26.2-mile ING New York City Marathon.

The upper level of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge will be closed in both directions from 12:01 a.m. through 3 p.m. Sunday, and the lower level will be closed in both directions from about 7 a.m. until about 3 p.m.

Staten Island Expressway ramps and local roads closest to the bridge and the Fort Wadsworth starting line will be closed as early as 11 p.m. Saturday night.

Bay Street will be closed from Fingerboard Road to School Road in Fort Wadsworth between 5 a.m. and 3 p.m., as will School between Bay and Lily Pond Avenue and Lily Pond between School and Capodanno Boulevard.
