Veteran, political aide is parade’s grand marshal

SOUTH GLENS FALLS - Dante Orsini was playing basketball at the Naval War College the morning of Dec. 7, 1941.

“They interrupted the game at about halftime to tell us the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor,” said Orsini, a member of the Marine Corps Institute basketball team at the time.

Life would change quickly for Orsini, who was serving on the White House security detail for President Franklin Roosevelt in the months before and after the United States entered World War II.
