SENATOR FUSCHILLO JOINS THOUSANDS OF RESIDENTS IN FIGHTING DRUNK DRIVING AT MADD-LONG ISLAND’S “WALK LIKE MADD” EVENT

State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently joined with thousands of volunteers at MADD-LI’s “Walk Like MADD” event to fight drunk driving.  

            The annual event, which was held at Farmingdale State College, raises funds to help support MADD’s programs for victims of drunk driving as well as programs to help prevent drunk driving and underage drinking. This year’s walk raised over $144,000. 

Senator Fuschillo, along with Assemblyman Dave McDonough and Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice, thanked the walkers for their efforts and congratulated MADD-LI President Denna Cohen and Executive Director Thomas McCoy for all their hard work in putting the event together. 

In addition, Senator Fuschillo thanked MADD for assisting him in passing “Leandra’s Law,” one of the strongest anti-DWI laws in the country. Leandra’s law makes it a felony to drive drunk with a child in the car and also requires all convicted drunk drivers to install ignition interlocks in their vehicles. Ignition interlocks are breath test devices linked into a vehicle’s ignition system which prevents the vehicle from starting if alcohol is detected in the driver’s breath.
