Anthony Barnes' Hurricanes squad has become farm team for Staten Island high schools
It was the summer of 2003, and Samuel Barnes' music career was reaching new heights.
But the move left Barnes in a crossroads of another kind. It was supposed to be the second season for his Staten Island Hurricanes youth football program, which he'd just started the year before.
Would he keep the Hurricanes on Staten Island, or terminate the program altogether?
"It's going to be very soon," said state Sen. Diane Savino (D-Staten Island), who secured an allocation from the state to ensure the completion of the Park. "They deserve it. They're well-rounded kids, not just football players."
