Finger Lakes Wine Festival, July 16-18
The rise of New York’s wine industry is one of New York State’s most remarkable success stories.
In a generation, since the mid-1980's, when many of us can recall that the grape-and-wine industry was on the brink of collapse, it's now a burgeoning statewide industry generating billions of dollars in economic activity, accounting for thousands of livelihoods, forming the backbone of Finger Lakes tourism, and bringing national and international acclaim to New York.
New York is now America’s third-largest wine producing state, with more than 250 wineries statewide. The industry employs 18,000 workers and annually generates $3.4 billion for the state economy. Over three million people visit the state’s wineries every year. One-third of these visitors come from out of state.
The industry will be fully and proudly on display this weekend at the annual Finger Lakes Wine Festival in Watkins Glen.
