Education & Business Partner in Greene County

GREENVILLE — A start-up biotechnology company is establishing a business incubator at Greenville High School, in what’s being hailed as a groundbreaking move that will enhance the relationship between educators and entrepreneurs.

C2 Biotechnologies, established in 2006, will use the school’s agriculture room as a base for its research and development of enzymes used in the conversion of biomass into energy.

The project, which is a partnership between the company, the Greene County Industrial Development Agency and Greenville Central School District, is being dubbed the Greene Commercial Center.

Officials made the announcement Monday.

“This concept of the Greene Commercial Center is an opportunity for us to work collaboratively in the world of business and in our community at large,” said Greenville Superintendent of Schools Cheryl Dudley. “We firmly embrace and believe this is a model for future school-business interaction.”

“We need to think outside of the box,” Sen. James Seward, R-Oneonta, said about stimulating economic development and job creation in tough financial times. The incubator, he said, will bring all of the stakeholders together.
