Seward Joins The 2nd Annual Autism Awareness Walk In Catskill

CATSKILL, 04/18/10 – At the start of the second annual Autism Awareness Walk, state Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced that the 2009-2010 state budget includes at his request, an $8,000 senate grant toward operating expenses for the Autism Connection of Greene County.

“The senate funding will help the Autism Connection of Greene County continue to grow and provide assistance to families coping with this trying developmental disorder,” said Senator Seward.  “By serving as a clearinghouse of educational and medical information, the Autism Connection of Greene County has taken a leading role in ensuring children, families and caregivers have a place to turn for vital support.”

The Autism Connection (TAC) was formed in December of 2008 and has since established an office in Coxsackie, conducted social skills camps for children with autism, started a lending library of information about the developmental disorder, and held multiple awareness events to educate the community about autism. 

Senator Seward also took part in the inaugural Autism Awareness Walk in 2009, joining over 300 individuals to increase autism awareness.

“Having a child with special needs is difficult, and parents often do not know where to turn for assistance.  The Autism Connection of Greene County strives to help families find the appropriate community resources and support they need, I am proud to help them continue their mission,” Seward concluded.
