State Insurance reps in Salem, Sept. 28 to answer flood-related questions

     New York State Insurance Department representatives will be available Wednesday, September 28 in the village of Salem to answer flood-related insurance questions,  according to Senator Betty Little and Assemblyman Tony Jordan.  The Mobile Command Center van will be parked in the village municipal parking lot, 301 Main Street, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. next to the FEMA van.

     Appointments are not necessary.

     “It’s important that residents who have sustained flood damage first determine whether or not their insurance will cover repairs,” said Little.  “The mobile unit offers those with questions the benefit of a face to face conversation.”

     “I would like to thank the Insurance Department for making this van available to assist the residents of Washington County affected by this storm, and urge residents who sustained property damage during Irene to take advantage of this opportunity to have their insurance related questions answered by Department staff,” said Jordan.

     “The state will continue to work hard in the weeks and months ahead to focus its resources to assist citizens and business owners in their efforts to recover from this disaster. The state will continue to monitor the situation and make sure people get the help they are entitled to receive,” Financial Services Superintendent Benjamin Lawsky said.

     Citizens and business owners are urged to contact the Insurance Department if they have insurance-related problems they cannot resolve by themselves. The Insurance Department is continuing to staff its disaster hotline, 1-800-339-1759 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends. Complaints can be filed electronically by using this link on the Department’s website, http://www.ins.state.ny.us/complhow.htm.
