Free Skating Has Kids Twirling in Coney as Winter Ends

Last Friday, about 250 kids, parents, teachers and other Brooklyn residents laced up their figure and hockey skates to whirl around Abe Stark rink on the Coney Island boardwalk. Skating was free for the day, sponspored by Councilman Domenic M. Recchia Jr.

A bevy of politicos were on hand, including state Senator Diane Savino, Representative Jerrold Nadler and Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny, all of whom have some jurisdiction over Coney Island.

Professional figure skater and frequent “parade personality” Marni Halasa dressed as the Coney Island Fairy Godmother to perform tricks and teach the kids how to skate.
