Senator Farley Announced Two Local Sites for 9-11 Commemoration Exhibit

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) announced the Riverfront Center in Amsterdam and City Center in Saratoga Springs will be two locations for "New York Remembers" exhibitions that will be held as part of the 9-11 commemoration. Thirty locations throughout the state will be open to the public starting the week of August 29th and continuing throughout September.

"We will never forget how the tragedy of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11th changed our lives. These exhibits will help us to remember that day and those loved ones we lost, and to reflect on the heroic service of volunteers and emergency service personnel. I encourage my constituents to take the time to visit these exhibits," Senator Farley said.

Senator Farley reported the exhibits will include many artifacts from the State Museum and the National September 11 Memorial and Museum.

"The State Museum has a moving exhibit that is permanently on display about 9-11," Senator Farley said. Called "The World Trade Center: Rescue Recovery Response," the exhibit highlights the rescue efforts after the attacks and the public outpouring of compassion and support. The exhibit includes objects, images, and video and computer stations. "I remember that day as if it happened yesterday," Senator Farley said. "Shortly after the attacks, I was part of a delegation that went to Ground Zero. We toured the damage and met many emergency personnel. This was truly a devastating event, but the human spirit is amazing as Americans came together to help the victims of this tragedy. It is important to remember this event in order to honor the victims and rescue workers, and to reaffirm our commitment to prevent future acts of terrorism."

"I encourage people to visit the exhibits that will be in our neighborhoods in September, or visit the one in Albany, which can help us teach younger generations about a sad but important piece of history. September 11th has been designated as Patriot Day in New York State. I also encourage people to fly their flags at half-staff that day and observe a moment of silence in honor of the 3,000 people who died," Senator Farley said.
