2011 Community Meetings -- see this week's schedule

Thomas F. O'Mara

Senaor O'Mara is joining with the region's representatives in the New York State Assembly -- Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R-C-I, Corning) and Assemblyman Chris Friend (R-Big Flats) -- for a series of community meetings throughout the area in the coming weeks.

Meetings have already been held in Bath, Corning, and Wayland.

This week's meetings will be held on:

> Tuesday, October 4, 2011, beginning at 5:30 p.m., at the Dundee Village Hall, where Senator O'Mara will be joined by Assemblyman Palmesano; and

Wednesday, October 5, 2011, beginning at 5:30 p.m., at the Big Flats Town Hall, where Assemblyman Friend will join Senator O'Mara.

Senator O’Mara said that additional meetings will be scheduled before the end of the year in cities, towns and villages throughout the remainder of his 53rd Senate District, which is comprised of Chemung,  Schuyler, Steuben and Yates counties, and a portion of Tompkins County (the city and town of Ithaca, and the towns of Enfield, Newfield and Ulysses).

Assemblyman Palmesano’s 136th Assembly District covers Steuben and Yates counties.

Assemblyman Friend's 137th Assembly District covers Chemung and Schuyler counties, and part of Tioga County.

The local lawmakers said that the meetings are informal and open to the public.  They’re aimed at giving local residents an opportunity to directly share their concerns, opinions and suggestions for better government.  This year’s meetings will also provide a valuable opportunity to assess the local impact of this year’s session of the state Legislature and to look ahead at some of the key regional issues that need to be addressed in the 2012 session beginning in January.
