Local woman receives nation's second-highest civilian honor -- watch White House ceremony, read statement from Senator O'Mara

Thomas F. O'Mara

Elmira, N.Y., October 20—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) released the following statement today on President Barack Obama’s awarding of the nation’s second-highest civilian honor, the Presidential Citizens Medal, to Camilla “Milly” Bloomquist of Yates County:

“What a well-deserved and well-earned honor for Milly Bloomquist, and for her family, friends and fellow volunteers.  Milly has quietly been a force for good in Yates County across the past three decades.  She’s been a steady and amazing source of comfort and caring for so many children and families in need.  She’s made all the difference in their lives.  Now she’s a beacon of good citizenship for the world and we couldn’t be prouder.  On behalf of the residents of the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier, I’m pleased to extend our best wishes and deep gratitude.”
