Marcellino Announces Appointment To Senate Library Committee

Carl L Marcellino

Senator Carl L. Marcellino (R-Syosset) announced today that he was appointed to a newly-created Senate Select Committee on Libraries.  This 19-member bipartisan body was established on January 10th through passage of a Senate resolution.

“This new committee will promote libraries and address their critical needs in New York,” said Senator Marcellino.  Since my arrival in the Legislature, I have been a strong supporter of our State’s libraries.  As a former school teacher and administrator for over twenty years, I know the important role libraries play in educating our youth and enriching our community.

The Select Committee is authorized to conduct meetings, conferences and public hearings, to gather information and to make recommendations on library-related legislative proposals.

Mike Borges, Executive Director of the New York Library Association, attended the Senate Session and said “The library community is very pleased that the Senate has reactivated a special committee on libraries and looks forward to working with all the members to address the needs of libraries and library systems around the State.”

“I look forward to working alongside the members of this new committee to ensure that our libraries statewide have the tools and resources necessary to educate both young and old.  I thank Senator Skelos for including me in this most important endeavor,” concluded Senator Marcellino
