Senator Farley Notes June Is National Dairy Month

June is National Dairy Month, a time to celebrate one of New York’s top agricultural businesses. In 2010, some 12.7 billion pounds of milk were produced in New York State, at a value of $2.2 billion. New York State is home to approximately 6,000 farms and 600,000 cows. New York is fourth in the Nation for milk production. As you purchase dairy products this month, keep in mind how crucial dairy farming is to our region and, specifically, to the Mohawk Valley. Not only do local farms provide direct employment, but food processing facilities such as the Fage yogurt plant in Johnstown represent major investments in the community.
