Local GST BOCES student honored as 'Student of the Year'
Albany, N.Y.—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) and Assemblyman Christopher Friend (R-Big Flats) congratulated Sabrina Doty of Elmira, who was among 25 adult education students from across New York State honored on Wednesday, March 14 by the New York Association for Continuing/Community Education (NYACCE).
The NYACCE is the professional organization representing adult education professionals from across the state. As part of the organization’s 29th Annual Student of the Year Awards and Legislative Event in Albany, Doty, representing the Greater Southern Tier (GST) BOCES, received a “Student of the Year 2012” award.
“It’s a real tribute to Sabrina’s commitment to education, devotion to her family’s future, and to the hard work it’s taken to reach her goals,” O’Mara and Friend said in a joint statement. “Sabrina Doty represents the difference good teachers make, and the power of a strong work ethic. She’s a great source of pride to the administration and staff of the Greater Southern Tier BOCES."
Sabrina Doty enrolled in the External Dipolma Program at GST BOCES Adult Education and Training Services in January 2010 and subsequently enrolled in the school’s Cosmetology Licensing program. She’s currently employed locally as a cosmetologist and continues to attend classes to upgrade her skills.
She was nominated for the NYACCE award by Debra Harrington, an Adult Training & Development Specialist at GST BOCES.
