"New York Works" projects announced

Thomas F. O'Mara

Albany, N.Y., April 3—At the Capitol today, New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced more than $107 million in additional and accelerated investment for 32 “New York Works” projects that will repair 155 miles of roads and 23 bridges in the Southern Tier, and create thousands of jobs.

The "New York Works" initiative to spur job creation through infrastructure development was a cornerstone of the final 2012-2013 state budget enacted by the Legislature and the governor last week.

State Senator Tom O'Mara said, "The development of our regional and statewide transportation infrastructure represents a key economic lifeline for our communities and workers. Transportation will play a key role in turning around the fortunes of upstate New York manufacturing, tourism, agriculture and every other sector of the economy. This year's budget, especially the 'New York Works' initiative, establishes a stronger state commitment to upstate job creation and economic growth. We appreciate and welcome Governor Cuomo's continued leadership."
