MARCELLINO ANNOUNCES PASSAGE OF PACKAGE TO ENSURE ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN AND STOP SEXUAL HARASSMENT AND DISCRIMINATION
State Senator Carl L. Marcellino (R-Syosset), announced today that the Senate passed a comprehensive package of legislation that promotes women’s equality in New York State.
“New York women exemplify personal excellence and achievement. Our laws must protect equality and the rights of women of all ages. This is a common sense package that ensures pay equity for women in the workplace across the State, guarantees working mothers receive paid maternity leave, combats human trafficking and domestic violence,” said Senator Marcellino.
The package includes:
S5872 -- Prohibits differential pay because of sex
S5873 -- Relates to unlawful discriminatory practices
S5874 -- Relates to the provision of attorney's fees in cases of housing, employment or credit discrimination
S5875 -- Relates to unlawful discriminatory practices because of familial status
S5876 -- Prohibits discrimination in housing based upon domestic violence status and establishing task force to study impact of source of income on access to housing
S5877 -- Relates to the scope of orders of protection and temporary orders of protection
S5878 -- Establishes a pilot program for the filing of petitions for temporary orders of protection by electronic means
S5879 -- Enacts the trafficking victims protection and justice act
S5880 -- Relates to reasonable accommodation for pregnancy
“These important bills will demonstrate New York State’s commitment to equal protections under the law, greater job opportunities and economic success for women across our State. I am proud to have voted for this package and look forward to it becoming law in the near future,” concluded Senator Marcellino.
The bills were sent to the Assembly.
