ALBANY - A Queens State Senator wants to limit a controversial tax break for companies that hire teen workers to mom and pop stores - not big retailers like Walmart.

“We really should make the focus toward small businesses,” said Sen. Jose Peralta, a Democrat, who plans to push for changes to the credit when the legislative session begins in January.

The tax credit was included in the state’s 2013-14 budget to compensate businesses for an increase in the state’s minimum wage.
