E-ZPASS WARNS DRIVERS TO BEWARE OF EMAIL SCAM TO COLLECT UNPAID TOLLS

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is warning drivers and other consumers of an email phishing scam that attempts to collect unpaid tolls.

The E-ZPass Service Center does not send out email invoices for payment and instead relies on delivery by the US Postal Service.

The agency wants the public to hit the delete key if they receive the email since it is not an authorized communication from E-ZPass.

"We advise customers in receipt of this email not to open or respond to such a message," a news release from the Port Authority said. "The safest thing to do is to delete the email.
