O'Mara votes against legislation to provide state taxpayer-financed college tuition assistance to illegal aliens
Albany, N.Y., March 17—The State Senate today voted against legislation known as the “Dream Act” to provide state taxpayer-financed college tuition assistance to illegal aliens.
Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) voted no on the legislation.
Following today’s vote, he released the following statement:
“Whether it’s using state taxpayer dollars to finance the college educations of prison inmates or illegal aliens, I’m against it. We have law-abiding, hardworking families across the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes struggling to make ends meet, paying outrageously high state and local taxes, and going into huge amounts of debt trying to afford college. It’s not right to ignore the needs and the hopes of these families for their children, and then turn around and use hard-earned taxpayer dollars to enhance assistance to those who are in this country illegally.”
