Regional airports awarded state funding, O'Mara praises 'smart investments' in local economy
Elmira, N.Y., December 16—Several regional airport projects are among 26 aviation projects statewide being awarded a total of $9 million to enhance safety, security and economic development, it was announced in Albany today.
State Senator Tom O'Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats) welcomed the announcement.
“The regional aviation industry has an enormously positive economic impact across the local economy,” said O’Mara. “Our regional airports create jobs, make us more competitive, and deliver economic growth and other critical opportunities to communities across the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions. These smart investments in aviation infrastructure will lead to vital short- and long-term benefits.”
The following airports are being awarded the following project awards:
> Elmira Corning Regional Airport: $929,000 for expanding the terminal and rehabilitating the general aviation terminal parking lot;
> Hornell Municipal Airport: $172,784 to replace a storage tank and fueling equipment;
> Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport: $120,000 to replace the roof on the crash, fire and rescue building; and
> Penn Yann-Yates County Airport: $485,100 for the construction of an 8,400-square-foot, eight-bay hangar.
