MARCELLINO NAMED SENATE EDUCATION CHAIR
State Senator Carl L. Marcellino (R, Syosset) announced today that he has been named Chairman of the New York State Senate’s Committee on Education by Senate Majority Leader John J. Flanagan.
“Next week, I will formally appoint Senator Carl Marcellino as Chairman of the Senate’s Committee on Education,” said Senator Flanagan. “Senator Marcellino has a wealth of experience in the Legislature and is a former public school teacher and school board member with a strong grasp of the education system in New York State. I know he will do a tremendous job representing students and their parents when it comes to improving the quality of education, and he will be a tireless advocate for the members of our Senate Republican Conference and the taxpayers and constituents they represent.”
In addition to having been a member of the Senate Education Committee since 1995, Senator Marcellino served as a science teacher for the New York City Public School System and as an Assistant Principal for Administration at Grover Cleveland High School. He was also a member of the Syosset Central School District Board.
“I am honored to be named Chairman of the Senate Education Committee. I thank Majority Leader Flanagan for this opportunity and appreciate his support. As a public school teacher for over twenty years, it is no secret that education is my passion. Moving forward, we need to get more parents, students and teachers involved in the process. Their ideas and experiences should be a driving force behind our policies. I will work with anyone that wants to attack and solve the critical issues facing our State’s education system,” said Senator Carl L. Marcellino.
