Senator Farley Notes Fall Foliage Reports Are Available

Senator Farley reminds constituents New York State has a toll-free hotline for “leaf-peepers,” people who enjoy seeing the leaves change to their beautiful autumn colors.

The number is (800) CALL-NYS (225-5697) and it’s updated each Wednesday afternoon for the upcoming weekend throughout the fall season. The hotline uses spotters throughout the State to update reports. According to the hotline, the falls season is underway with colors changing in the northern parts of the state. Spotters in Tug Hill noted maple trees are showing oranges and red, while reporters at Lapland Lake in the Northville-Benson area predict a 10 percent color change with leaves turning red, orange and purple.

“New York State is home to a variety of trees, and this region boasts some beautiful fall foliage,” Senator Farley said of his 49th Senatorial District that includes Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Saratoga and Schenectady Counties. “One of the reasons New York State has such terrific fall colors is that it has a wide variety of broad-leaved trees. Sugar Maple, American Beech, American Hornbeam, American Mountain Ash, Bitternut Hickory, and Black Walnut are a few of the many that change into beautiful and bright browns, oranges, and reds. Look for the best colors this fall and enjoy our scenery.”
