NY1 reported on the Senator's efforst to improve street adn road safety measure at the intersection of Northern and Junction boulevards.

NY1:

Family and friends of a teenage hit and run victim are calling on the city to make changes to what they say is a dangerous intersection in Corona.

Dozens stood with elected officials at the corner of Junction and Northern boulevards Thursday morning, the location where police say 17-year-old Ovidio Jaramillo was struck and killed as he crossed the street Tuesday night.

State Senator Jose Peralta is calling on the Department of Transportation to install better lighting and more speed cameras along Northern Boulevard.

"We need to increase the number of speed cameras on our streets in order to catch those cars that think they can hit someone and simply drive away and get away with it." Peralta said.

"We're so hurt. Now that we don't have him in our lives anymore, he's not going to be able to go to college, get a job, have a family." said Victoria Ramirez, a friend of Jaramillo.

A DOT spokesperson says they are actively talking with local officials regarding the safety of the intersection.
