Murphy searches for Westchester Korean War vets for monument
KATONAH, NY - Senator Terrence Murphy today highlighted that the Westchester County Veterans Service Agency is updating the plaques on the County's Korean Veterans War Monument. It is located in Lasdon Park on Route 35 in Katonah.
"This somber memorial, where the names of our fallen are wrought upon bronze plaques, pays fitting tribute while it reminds us that the heroes of the 'forgotten war' shall never be forgotten in our hearts and in our memories," Murphy said. "Located along the Veterans Memorial Trail of Honor in Somers, it stands as a fitting tribute to those who paid the ultimate price in the sacrifice for our freedom. I urge those who have not yet been able to visit this beautiful park to take a moment to do so, and those that know a soldier whose service should be reflected upon these solemn plaques, to contact the Westchester Veteran's Service Agency."
According to the Westchester Veteran's Service Agency, several names of Westchester residents who were killed in combat in this war have been received. Officials are now seeking to honor them properly by adding their names to a new bronze plaque which will replace the existing ones.
If you have information regarding a Westchester resident who was killed in combat and whose name does not appear on the list, please contact Vito Pinto, director of the Westchester Veteran's Service Agency at (914) 995-2145/2146.
