Albany, N.Y., June 2--State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) welcomed Margaret Badding, a junior at Campbell-Savona High School (Steuben County), to the State Capitol on Tuesday, May 24, 2016.

Badding was among the nearly 30 high school students from across the state who participated in the 16th Annual “Students Inside Albany” (SIA) conference sponsored by the League of Women Voters of New York (LOWV/NY) State Educational Foundation, Inc.

In the photo above, Badding joined O’Mara (l.) and Palmesano (r.) in the Assembly Chamber in the Capitol.

Through the LOWV’s annual SIA conference, select high school students spend several days in Albany learning about state government and politics.  Students also spend an afternoon “shadowing” O’Mara, Palmesano and other state legislators to get a firsthand look at New York’s legislative process.

In a joint statement, O’Mara and Palmesano said, ““We would like to thank the League of Women Voters for organizing this conference.  Promoting civic traditions and encouraging participation in government lays a solid foundation for a brighter New York.  We would also like to thank Margaret Badding for coming to Albany and participating in the conference. She is bright and inquisitive, and she truly cares about public service.  It’s enormously important to do everything we can to help instill a strong sense of public service among our young people and future leaders.”
