Local Libraries Get State Funding

Ceremonial checks from New York State were delivered to public libraries in eastern Niagara County this week, symbolizing the funding that the libraries received in the 2017-2018 state budget. The checks were delivered by state Sen. Rob Ortt, R-North Tonawanda.

The recipients are:

 
 

— Lockport Public Library, $10,000 to upgrade its elevator system and bring back its TechMobile for the summer. In conjunction with Lockport City School District, the library’s TechMobile brings books, arts and crafts and healthy snacks to neighborhoods within the district.

— Wilson Community Library, $10,000 to implement a computer coding pilot program and purchase supplies for it.

 
 
 

— Barker Public Library, $5,000 for programming and educational activities.

— Newfane Public Library, $5,000 for mobile shelving units.

— Royalton Hartland Community Library, $5,000 for children’s programs.
