Local lawmakers want to eliminate Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge toll

Local lawmakers expressed their support on Wednesday for a proposed bill that would do away with the toll on the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge connecting the Rockaways to mainland Queens.

Introduced by Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato, the bill is sponsored by Senator Joseph P. Addabbo and co-sponsored by Assemblyman Mike Miller. The toll on the Cross Bay Bridge was implemented to cover the cost of construction in 1970, and started at $0.10 per trip.  The toll has since grown to $4.25 per trip.
