NY Daily News: Queens state senator pushes for public log detailing origins of guns used in crimes
ALBANY — A Queens state senator wants to make it easier for New Yorkers to know where criminals get their guns.
Sen. Michael Gianaris, a Democrat, is set to introduce a bill Monday to require the Department of Criminal Justice Services and the state police to publish quarterly reports on their websites about the origins of firearms used in crimes.
"New York has very strict gun laws," Gianaris told The News. "The problem is illegal guns are getting into our state from other places. Exploring where they are coming from will shine a light on exactly where the problem lies."
