Erin’s Law is legislation under consideration in the state Legislature that would mandate sex abuse education for children in elementary and middle school. The bill is named after Erin Merryn of Illinois, a childhood sexual assault survivor, author, speaker and activist, according to erinslaw.org.
“I wish I had had this training to help me when I was being abused,” said state Sen. Alessandra Biaggi, D-34, who represents portions of Westchester and Bronx counties, “It is essential to give children the tools they need to protect themselves, so they can stop abuse or report it early and reduce the harm.”
