Senate committee to consider marriage officiating legislation

Legislation is making its way through the Capitol that would let New Yorkers obtain a one-day authorization to officiate weddings.State law currently allows religious officials and elected officials to solemnize weddings, and the measure scheduled for consideration by the Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday would empower the secretary of state to establish one-day marriage officiants.The legislation is sponsored by Democratic lawmakers Sandy Galef and Alessandra Biaggi.
