Dispelling the Model Minority Myth
Our guests discuss what all of them agree is one of the biggest problems facing the Asian American community: the Model Minority Myth. Pretty much everyone who’s not Asian sees Asian Americans as the very personification of success. They’re smart, they’re wealthy, and, probably worst of all, they’re self-sufficient. And so they are ignored when it comes to handing out help, or advice or the benefits many other communities enjoy. But the Asian community is diverse, with more than 50 different nationalities living right here in New York. Some are established for decades, others are newly-minted immigrants, who are struggling to gain a foothold here.
