Sen. Rachel May, elected officials and community leaders from Syracuse gathered in Albany Wednesday to highlight the need for a draft environmental impact statement and an open dialog over options for the future of Interstate 81.

Each participant spoke for several minutes, covering topics including the need for a robust DEIS from the Department of Transportation, the need for large, inclusive, and transparent conversations with the community on each option’s viability, the potential for significant growth and leadership for the city of Syracuse, and the ability to redress social and racial injustices perpetrated during the building of the original viaduct.
