Malverne, West Hempstead schools receive state aid support from local elected officials
State Sen. Todd Kaminsky and State Assemblywoman Judy Griffin recently announced that they secured a combined $23.5 million in state school aid for Malverne and West Hempstead schools. The funding is part of the 2019-20 state budget and will go towards the 2019-20 school year.
“Providing a high-quality education for our children is my top priority, and strengthening these school districts are central to ensuring Malverne and West Hempstead remain vibrant communities,” Kaminsky said in a news release. “I am proud to have helped secure more funding for Malverne and West Hempstead schools so that our students can have the best learning opportunities available. Importantly, the more money we secure from Albany, the less hardworking Malverne and West Hempstead taxpayers are called on to shoulder the financial burden.”
Griffin said she was pleased to help schools in Malverne and West Hempstead collectively receive $23.2 million more in overall education aid than they did last year.
“As the mother of four children, I know how important education funding is to their future,” Griffin said. “And, as a Long Island taxpayer and homeowner, I am keenly aware of the balance between quality education and the real cost to local taxpayers. That is why, along with Senator Kaminsky, I fought hard for, and secured this increase in state aid to help offset that burden. We are fortunate to have great schools here in Nassau County and I am proud to have been successful in helping them to continue offering quality academic opportunities to our children.”
State aid for West Hempstead schools will increase by more than $900,000, or 8.7 percent, from last year, and over $525,000, or 4.5 percent, for Malverne schools. This funding is part of a more than $1 billion increase in state school aid over last year.
