ALBANY — A bill moving through the state Legislature proposes allowing breastfeeding mothers to be excused from jury duty.
The legislation would require courts to accept a doctor's note indicating that a woman is breastfeeding and enable her to postpone her service for up to two years.
The law, introduced by Sen. Velmanette Montgomery and Assemblyman Marcos Crespo, Democrats from New York City, is intended to encourage mothers to breastfeed and protect the health of their infants.
