Yonkers Police, FBI & Good Samaritan Honored for Heroic Acts

Mayor Mike Spano, joined by Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, recently honored members of the Yonkers Police Department, the FBI, and Good Samaritan Zacarius Green for their actions on September 25 in Getty Square.

“As mayor for nearly 9 years, I recall a number of days in which I paused and thought to myself just how proud I am to be the Mayor of Yonkers. I am beyond proud of the work of our Police Department and of our friend Mr. Green,” said Mayor Mike Spano.

Officers Paul Samoyedny, Brian Menton (FBI), and James Menton and Zacarius Green (Good Samaritan) took down the subject who was running through Getty Square with a gun and who fired at an FBI officer.

The suspect was apprehended and subsequently charged with one count of attempting to murder a federal officer.“What may have seemed like a simple act of courage may have been a life-changing moment. Last month following a shooting in Getty Square, Good Samaritan, Zacarius Green, and members of the Yonkers Police Department secured an armed man whose intention was to inflict harm. Thankfully, no one was hurt.”
