Local Officials Tell Judge Their Concerns about Doral Arrowwood Hotel Closing [Westmore News]

Local officials got together to write a joint letter to State Supreme Court Judge Gretchen M. Walsh to express their grave concerns about the closing of Doral Arrowwood Hotel and Conference Center in Rye Brook on Jan. 12. They submitted it to Judge Walsh, who is overseeing the court case relating to financial elements of the shutdown, on Jan. 6, a day before the court session in White Plains to discuss and define exactly how the hotel will wind down operations.

The fate of the facility’s employees, some of whom contacted State Senator Mayer, was the officials’ initial point of unease.

“First, we are deeply concerned about the impact of such a quick closing on the more than 275 employees of The Doral Arrowwood,” states the letter. According to Court-appointed Receiver Kirby Payne, there are 268 employees who will be losing their jobs.

“We have concerns about compliance with the 90-day and 60-day notice requirements, respectively, under New York State and Federal WARN laws,” the letter continues, noting that employees were only given 20 days’ notice at most.

In court Tuesday, Jan. 7, Payne, who has been running the hotel since March 15, 2019, said future bills the hotel must pay include $2.5 million to the soon-to-be-terminated employees under the New York State WARN Act.
