Tempo Group in Woodmere receives $14,730 in state funding

The Woodmere-based Tempo Group has received some state funding that will help them continue to treat patients remotely during the coronavirus pandemic. 

State Sen. Todd Kaminsky (D-Long Beach) announced that Tempo Group was awarded $14,730 in funding from the New York State Opioid Response Grant to expand their telepractice capacity to ensure access to addiction treatment for individuals and families.

The funding is part of a larger award made to 33 providers in all New York Regional Economic Development Zones enhancing the state’s ability to practice telemedicine.

“As we continue to battle the ongoing pandemic, we can’t lose sight of initiatives and efforts to fight another ongoing crisis facing our community: the opioid epidemic,” Kaminsky, a member of the Senate Health Committee said. “Now more than ever, we must double down on providing options for individuals and families struggling to overcome addiction, while taking into consideration COVID-19 safety risks. This funding gives Nassau County residents a flexible and safe option to get the help they need to overcome opioid addiction without compromising their health further.”

Tempo Group was incorporated in Woodmere in 1968. They also have locations in the Bellmore-Merrick School District and in Syosset. According to their website, they offer “Developed prevention, education, intervention and treatment programs in all areas related to substance abuse and family issues.” The organization's Executive Director Cindy Wolff noted the importance of being able to receive treatment during the pandemic.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has made it increasingly difficult for those seeking addiction treatment to get the help they need to build towards recovery,” Wolff said. “The funding from New York State allows Tempo Group to expand our telepractice and serve the people of the greater Nassau County area so they can get treatment safely and efficiently so they can focus on their treatment.”

Amid the pandemic, telemedicine services are being utilized to keep individuals and families engaged in addiction treatment. Tempo Group will utilize the funding to purchase the following technologies to enhance their virtual offerings, including: PCs, software, monitors, speakers, laptops, keyboards, and webcams.
